METAs Updated Eligibility Criteria

Dear Members of the Montreal English Theatre Community,

The METAs Committee has made amendments to the METAs Eligibility Criteria that will be unique to the 2021-2022 theatre season. These changes are in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and consider the ongoing difficulty of gathering in-person and producing live theatre. There will be consultation with the community as to which criteria remain or are subject to review for the 2022-2023 season.

The METAs will operate on a much smaller scale for the Professional Theatre Companies in the 2021-2022 season, sending a 10-12 person conditional jury to registered productions, so long as government safety measures allow and it is safe to do so. Best efforts will be made, but we cannot guarantee a jury member’s presence, even if a show has been registered; health restrictions and COVID safety measures are constantly changing and the jurors must feel safe enough to see the production.

The METAs will be shifting to a Pay-What-You-Decide model for registration fees. The suggested amount below can serve as a guideline, however it will be up to the registering company to determine their fee.

Company annual operating budget: 2021 Fees per production

over $1,000,000: $100

From $250,000 to $999,999: $75

From $100,000 to $249,999: $50

From $0 to $99,999: $40
