The Innovation Award

The METAs Committee is excited to launch the Innovation Award for the 12th Annual METAs Ceremony. The goal of this award is to highlight a project or initiative, either by a company or individual practitioner, that goes above and beyond to create impactful advancements for the Montreal English Theatre Community.

This is a community-nominated award. Submissions can be for initiatives the nominator has themselves worked on, or an initiative in the community they have found to be innovative and impactful. Nominations should include reflections on the project/initiative’s relationship to one or multiple of the following aspects: 

  • Overall impact on Montreal English Theatre Community

  • Extent of Community Outreach & Accessibility 

  • Environmental impact or climate conscious practices 

  • Equity, diversity, and inclusion 

  • Innovative creativity and artistic exploration 

This award is intended to showcase the work in our community that is truly striving to make an impact and generate change - not only regarding the theatre we create, but in the wider methodologies, practices and infrastructures that house our productions. 

To prepare, you will be asked to submit the following three elements to complete your nomination:

  • Category Selection: the main aspect (see above) that the project/initiative responds to.

  • Project description: you will then be asked to submit approximately 500 words describing the nominated project/initiative and how it is relevant to the category you have selected. You may also add if it intersects with any additional categories from the above list. 

  • Letter of support: Finally, you will be asked to submit 250-500 words describing why you nominated the project and detailing your perception of its impact on the community. This letter of support may be signed by multiple community members, if you wish. 

This award is juried by a group of members of the Montreal English theatre community who have specialized knowledge and understanding of our deciding aspects.
