The METAs Committee – METAC
The METAs are managed by a Committee (METAC) of active members of the theatre community from varying disciplines who are committed to guiding and fulfilling the METAs mandate, ensuring its integrity as a project “by the community and for the community”.
METAC responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Jury renewal and oversight of jury process;
- Determining awards criteria, including special awards;
- Liaising with theatre companies and producers;
- Organizing and producing the Awards Ceremony;
- Fundraising and Public Relations;
- Fiscal responsibility;
- Ensuring the successful continuance of the METAs.
The members of the METAC serve a minimum of two (2) and maximum of three (3) years.
A graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada and University of Ottawa’s Department of Theatre, Eloi ArchamBaudoin is a bilingual actor based in Montreal. He has worked for Centaur Theatre (Intimate Apparel, With Bated Breath), Talisman Theatre (Province, Coma Unplugged, The Medea Effect), Compagnie Jean-Duceppe (Sunderland, Frères de sang), and appeared in many shows for young audiences (Holy Cow, Geronimo Stilton). His recent portrayal of Hosanna (Tableau d’Hôte Theatre) was critically acclaimed. He also leads a successful career as a voice actor. TV credits include The Art of More, 19-2, Unité 9 and 30 Vies.
Adèle has been the General Manager at Black Theatre Workshop since February 2005 working with three different Artistic Directors. She has an MBA specializing in Not-for-Profit organizations from Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business and an undergrad double major in Linguistics and German. In 2012 she was named Protégé by the Mallory Gilbert Award Winner Chuck Childs at the PACT AGM. She is currently the Secretary on the Conseil Québécois du théâtre Board representing PACT and the Treasurer on the Board of Fée Fatale.
Davide is a local actor, budding director and aspiring playwright, who was introduced to the arts at a very young age as his father was involved with l’Associazione Trinacria, an organization devoted to maintaining Sicilian culture in Quebec through theatre, music and folklore dancing. He is a graduate of the Professional Theatre Program at John Abbott College and recipient of both the Carla Napier Scholarship and Pamela Montgomery Award. Since graduating, Davide has worked with several independent and professional companies in the city, including: Teesri Duniya Theatre, Talisman Theatre, Black Theatre Workshop, Repercussion Theatre and Persephone Productions, among others both on and off stage.
As a child, Dayane wanted to be an oceanographer because the vast, seemingly endless water was full of mysteries that she wanted to uncover. She’s a bit older now, and she left behind the secrets of the sea, to concentrate on discovering the ones of storytelling.
She went to school, as one does, to learn about singing, acting and dancing. And learn she did. Dancing led to choreographing which led to directing. Now, she’s the Artistic Director of CETM (Centre for Education and Theatre in Montreal). She works in a nice office with big windows and a sturdy plant that doesn’t die when she forgets to water it. Every day she uncovers a little more than the day before, and she is grateful to all the opportunities that allow her to explore her obsession of human connection.
Michaela Di Cesare
Michaela holds an MA in Theatre from the University of Toronto and an undergraduate degree in Creative Writing & Theatre from Concordia University. Most recently, she appeared in Birds of a Feather for Roseneath Theatre. For Humber River Shakespeare Company, she played Hermia, Moth and Snug in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. For Teesri Duniya theatre, she appeared in State of Denial by Rahul Varma. As a member of the Artist Mentorship Program at Black Theatre Workshop she appeared in staged readings of Andrea Scott’s Eating Pomegranates Naked and Leah-Simone Bowen’s The Hallway. Michaela performed her one-woman show 8 Ways my Mother was Conceived in Toronto, Montreal, New York City, Ottawa, Hudson, Winnipeg and Stratford. TV credits include Fatal Vows 5, Psych Out, Fatal Vows 2, A Stranger in My Home and Sex & Ethnicity. Michaela spent one year as the Playwright-in-Residence at Imago Theatre where she wrote In Search of Mrs. Pirandello. Mrs. Pirandello was an official selection of the 2016 WildSide Festival at Centaur Theatre. Michaela’s latest play, Successions was developed as part of Infinitheatre’s inaugural playwrights’ unit and will be produced in the 2017/2018 Centaur Theatre Season.
After completing her BFA in Acting from the University of Windsor, Danielle returned to Montreal and forged her career working as an actor with a number of local theatre companies. In 2010, Danielle began her second career as a stage manager. She has worked for numerous theatre companies including but not limited to the Centaur Theatre Company, Segal Centre for the Performing Arts, Black Theatre Workshop and Repercussion Theatre.
Trevor Barrette is a Montreal based actor, director, writer / composer and proud graduate of John Abbott College’s Professional Theatre Program (2008 Carla Napier Scholarship / 2011 Pamela Montgomery Award). Upon graduating, he founded the award-winning Kaleidoscope Theatre Montreal and has directed their nine productions including four of his own musical creations. As an actor he has worked at the National Arts Centre, Centaur Theatre, Geordie Productions, Repercussion Theatre, among others. He is currently developing a one-man show with Playwrights Workshop Montreal’s Young Creators Unit. Trevor is on the board of the Quebec Drama Federation and served on the 2013-2014 META Jury.
Tau S. Bui
For over a decade, Tau S. Bui has been developing her management skills and business administration acumen in coordination positions for such companies as AbitibiBowater, SITQ/Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, Bell Canada and KPMG. In 2012, Tau began investing in Montreal’s cultural community as the Administration Manager for the Festival TransAmériques, the largest contemporary dance and theater event in North America. Inspired by her strong interest in theatre which she discovered when living in Vancouver, she joins the METAC with excitement and eagerness to learn more.
Born and raised in Northern Ontario, Danielle studied Music at Queen’s University, graduated in 1984 and began her acting career in 1991. Film and television credits of which she is most proud are: How the Gimquat Found Her Song (2007 Award of Excellence – Accolade Television Awards, 2008 Best Children’s Program – Banff World Television Festival), The War of 1812, Big Sugar (dir. Brian McKenna), Bellflower Bunnies (dir. Richard Dumont, Greenspace Productions). Favourite theatre projects include: The Seagull (dir. Peter Hinton – Segal Centre), The Comedy of Errors (dir. Peter Hinton – NAC/Centaur), Umloüt, MöcShplat (dir. Alain Goulem – Clowns Gone Bad), and her bilingual adaptation Les Foudres d’Ernest et d’Ernestine (dir. Alain Goulem – Hudson Village Theatre). Danielle has been a member of Platypus Theatre’s touring company since 1997, performing with symphony orchestras across Canada, the U.S. and South-East Asia. She is an administrator/instructor at ASM Performing Arts and a regular host and performer at the ever-popular cult favourite Kiss My Cabaret.
Born in Winnipeg and living in Montreal since 2008, Vanessa has a Master of Arts in Media Studies from Concordia and an undergraduate degree in Theatre Performance from the University of Winnipeg. She also went to clown schools in Paris (Ecole Philipe Gaulier) and Manitoulin Island (The Clown Farm!) She has created video work as well as performance rooted in theatre and contemporary dance, and currently works in administration at Centaur Theatre Company as the Outreach coordinator.
Erin is an aspiring writer and creator interested in art and theatre’s capacity for community-building, conversation and social change. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Theatre and Ethics (University of Ottawa) and a graduate degree in Communications (Concordia University). Erin has worked for not-for-profit arts organizations throughout Montreal including the English Language Arts Network, Repercussion Theatre and Black Theatre Workshop. She is currently the Artistic and Administrative Associate at Imago Theatre. Selected creative collaborations include: facilitating a play with McGill medical students aimed at increasing empathy and understanding through collective creation, a recent performance in the Frankie nominated show Enough Already and writing and co-producing the Fringe show Monster Games. Erin is genuinely excited be collaborating with the METAs team.
